Arsène Wenger

Look at the disrespect towards the greatest manager of all time tho lmaoo :joy::joy: It’s a perfect example of why Arsenal are what they are, kind of a shitty plastic club. Just look at the difference in the Chelsea supporters who showed up to protest the ESL and the hilariously sad attempt at a protest at the Emirates. Arsenal are really one of the least informed and plastic fanatic bases around all of Europe.

They signed some awful players for big money and hired Sven, I wouldn’t consider the one season of his ownership enough to consolidate them as being part of the bigger PL teams that’s for sure.

From Wiki, Stam cost 10.6m and Yorke 12.6m

Our record fee at the time was Henry (£11m) the next season.

Supreme defender Stam was. As good as most I’ve ever seen.

The problem with evaluating Wenger’s time with Arsenal is that the fans think Arsenal was some successful club who has to win trophies continuously.

Wenger was overachieving with quite frankly a mid table club and lo & behold it returned to mid table as soon as he left.

Ah memory must not have served me well, I remember seeing the figures on transfer market

Still think a knock on effect from that was felt. Particularly around the price of players. Yeah, they didn’t really sign anyone world beating, but they still spent way too much on those players they bought. Player managers around the world started salivating. X player got Y dollars, my player is better than them so they cost X+50%.

Eh? We was exactly that. A successful club that was winning trophies most of the time in that period.

Sure. But they had significantly raised their profile during this season and then immediately after the 07-08 season signed the likes of Robinho, Kompany, Nigel De Jong, SWP etc. They were easily top 4 contenders then and kept consolidating afterwards.

Yes because of Wenger who singlehandedly made this club “worthy” of being top 12 club and qualify for ESL

I can’t agree with you bro, if you look at any of the all time great premier league squads by pundits and former players a like it will be stacked with players from that period, Seaman, Lauren, Cashley, Adams, Keown, Dixon, Sol, Vieira, Pires, Bergkamp, Henry and Fabregas are some of the best players to have ever played in this league in their respective positions. The invincibles squad was near enough perfect, not saying another manager could of went undefeated but no way Ferguson isn’t winning titles with that squad.

Well done listing players that Wenger himself got into the club.
Give that period to some English manager, the squad would have been filled with Huddlestone, Scott Parker and likes.

Wenger didn’t ‘singlehandedly’ do it. Big contributor sure. We weren’t some nothing club before Wenger.

That’s not the point, you said they were mid table they weren’t. The defence Wenger inherited was one of the best in the country and like I said before he was instrumental to our success but then equally so to our downfall. Because he got complacent, that invincibles squad if not dismantled could of won at least one more title and really should of won a EC.

And Liverpool at the same time City truly became an established team were in the midst of ownership turmoil. Hiring the likes of Dalglish and Hodgson as managers and signings players way below the requisite standard for a club that size.

Not sure of your point here but if you’re mocking English players, kind reminder they were responsible for our last European Success in 1994.

Pool were still contending for top 4 and were able to throw significant sums on players. It’s not as if there fell off a cliff. The point though is that it wasn’t like Wenger had a clear run for the top 4. There were 3-4 clubs competing for 2 spots and Wenger did well to keep us in the top 4 right until his last 2 seasons.

Damn that one still hurts to think about it. I’m sure that Wenger realizes the mistake as well. Instead, i’ll have to hear about Leicester forever. :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

Wenger did NOT get all these players, he got, Lauren, Sol, Vieira Pires, Henry, and Fabregas.
