Arsène Wenger

You keep saying stuff like this despite the fact that Wenger himself directly contradicted it in interviews. This is what Wenger said about the socialist wage structure at Arsenal during this period.

Should I pay attention to the quote or some “it is understood”?

Heck, Wenger himself mentioned there that he is not the sole decision maker,

Even if Wenger was handing our contracts it doesn’t matter. We weren’t competing with the Chelsea, United, or City spending so keeping us top 4 after the Emirates move without spending hundreds of millions in the transfer market, was a miracle and only Arsene could have done it. Whatever strategy Arsene had worked :joy::joy::joy:

@Powderfinger Why don’t you explain this if you think Wenger had all the say?

If only you knew how much bullshit you were truly spouting in this thread. You couldn’t be anymore ignorant if you tried in dismissing our standing in English football and saying with such fact what a “mid table” team we’d be without Wenger.

I’ll leave you to drown in your own ignorance

I love and miss Wenger but he took us down this rabbit hole, as did the board, as did the coaching staff and of course, the players. In later years Wenger’s lack of tactical flexibility and disinclination to coach youngsters from the touchline contributed massively to our slow, painful decline.

In any disaster it’s usually a number of contributing factors that lead to the event though. I truly think that “injuries” is top of the list, followed by some poor signings, then never really rebuilding a defensive unit after the Invinsibles departed.

Take a breath and read it again. Wenger says that, yes, he is the one who sets the overall wage structure. Then he adds that he goes to the board for authorization if he wants to pay a player exceptionally high wages.

Yet none of you can show me one English so called “top club” of 80s & 90s, which managed to win a PL without
either a legendary manager like Wenger or Ferguson
or terrorist money

Forget PL, how many trophies did these top clubs win combined in 00s?

Our wage structure was a necessary evil. It was a calculated risk that ended up working out perfectly lmao.

Did he say that?

Liverpool made two European cup finals without terrorist money.
I presume you would say Rafa a lesser manager than Wenger and Fergie.

The Fenway group pumped their own money into Liverpool though. We’ve never had money pumped into us while paying off a stadium loan.

“Outliers” apparently mate.

Not when they were in them finals. Fenway took over in 2011.

Didn’t Wenger take the club to the CL final?

Yes. And what. You asked for a top club in the 80s or 90s who won a major trophy. Gave you an answer.
Would you agree Rafa out performed Wenger in the CL?

I was talking about so called top clubs like Everton, Aston Villa, Newcastle.

And let just say Liverpool count as “so called top club”, in that case that 4-5 trophies in 20 seasons. Amazingly top club esque

Never went 9 seasons in that period without a trophy though.

Went several seasons being midtable though and got sacked for it
