Arsenal vs Bournemouth (PL) 1-2

confused them with West Ham, my bad

I thought so  almost accepted it for a minute and had to check they didn’t win a domestic cup quickly lol

Bottom line is this also

Top players want to join clubs that can compete and potentially win the CL and PL, goes for player retention also.

Winning some domestic cup or 2nd rate European comp but finishing 7th ain’t satisfying Saliba and Saka types.

Rice doesn’t join us over others if we don’t look like we can win the majors.

Let’s hope we win, because my god this off-season will drag on…

I remember a couple years ago city players being asked about if Arsenal had the advantage in the run in because we only played once a week and they were playing twice a week. And they said no when you find a rythym its better to play more frequently.

We’re gutting our team every few days and absolutely stumbling through the most important part of the season yet again.

Maybe its more important to find form and confidence and carry that through.

I do think it is easier when your squad isn’t already down to the barebones.

Arteta has done some brilliant work, but 5 wins away from the league leaders and no trophies has me thinking he should be given one more season to show that he is the man to drive this team towards serious honours. If he’d bagged a domestic this year, he’d be given grace. However, we’ve been dumped out of two competitions (maybe 3 by next week) after capitulating at home. This needs assessing.

Would a league cup this season really change your perspective on him staying for the 26/27 season if we don’t win the league or CL next season?

I think almost anyone who would want him gone at the end of next season for not winning one of the big trophies would still want him gone even if there had been a league cup win this season.

You see it on here sometimes, people saying ā€œwe spent 700 gajillion on players and haven’t won a trophy in 5 yearsā€, intentionally placing the cut off point just after the FA Cup that Arteta has won, because ultimately, people don’t actually rate domestic cups that highly. If they want to criticise Arteta’s faulure to win big honours they’ll choose a timeframe for their argument that discounts the one trophy he actually has one as our manager.

Arteta can win domestic trophies and people will shorten the timeframe they’re assessing to ignore he ever did, or dind some other way to discount or ignore it. If we won a league cup this season but failed to win a big honour next season, people would essentially just ignore the league cup win and continue with their argument. ā€œHe’s spent 900 gajillion and he hasn’t won anything (except a shitty League Cup)ā€

It’s difficult (maybe) to believe but it would have changed things dramatically for me. Beating Newcastle over two legs before dealing with Liverpool would answer some mentality questions for me. Next season, fully fit, new signings, Nwaneri and MLS experienced- I expect us to be in the title mix. If we were to fall short again but had a trophy with this set of players, my mindset would be that it is just a matter of time.

The nature of the cup exits has affected my belief in Mikel getting us over the line.

I’d accept a close second and a cup next season, but how long do we accept no major title AND no minor trophies? No other top club does.

1-0 down to the best team in the comp

2/3 while our squad was ravaged and missing its most productive player. This cup exit stuff is nonsense.

C’mon now it was Man Utd, man. And we’re playing at home, not their ground.

Newcastle are a good side, but they’re not some heavyweight team gunning for titles every year.

Man Utd are beyond trash.

We had the players to deal with them, they just didn’t turn up.

You say that yet Liverpool haven’t beaten Amorim’s Utd and neither has City.
You know who has? Us.

What are we even talking about here? They’ve been shitting the bed against shit teams and turn up in these big games for years now. They slapped City in the FA Cup final last season.

Nah, we couldn’t handle both games at that point in the season, I said it before a ball was kicked. We had to prioritise one or the other and we didn’t so we lost both.

The squad was running on fumes already, those who were there weren’t in form and plenty were out injured. Jesus got crocked in that game to make it worse.

I also don’t get this ā€˜it’s man united’ stuff, in a cup game it doesn’t matter who it is. They went all the way last year despite being trash and even beat city in top form. That’s how cup football works, you don’t get results on entitlement.

The fact they got a red is the real slight against us for not winning that, they managed 60 mins a man down.

I haven’t even started yet!

Penalty shootout is 100 percent luck. It could Manchester United it could be Woking FC. It doesn’t matter

There’s some element of truth to that, but having a keeper who doesn’t dive so early would help…

I’m not mad about the shootout, I’m mad about the 120 minutes that led to it (well, not mad any more, I’m over it now just about lol)

Yep same here the actual match was infuriating :joy:

Losing to ten man United, the worst United team
Most of us have ever seen, AT HOME, is justifiable?

What the fuck is wrong with fragments of this fanbase? Going out 4 nil on aggregate to Newcastle is justifiable as well because they went on to win it?

Oh and not scoring and losing at home to PSG is acceptable because we were missing one player from our quarter final game?

Wow wee
