Yeah and I think I am ok with this… we have to take stock of our areas needing investment and some areas will suffer for depth as a consequence… we need multiple years to sort this out and get our pipeline and age profile in better shape, but we can make a LOT of progress this summer if we are smart.
I really don’t think Emi is good enough and worried if Leno get injured we will be fucked!
Yeah, and I’d rather this than spend out on buying someone.
Only thing I’d consider is keeping Ospina until his contract runs out given Napoli only want to give us £2m for him. Bastards, they’re almost as cheap as us
Ajax was going to be lenient this summer regarding Ziyech because he stayed another year. Plus I’m not sure the top 7 in Europe is going to sign him. But Ziyech is not a player I’d prefer.
What puts you off him? He looked really talented in the Cl.
He is talented. But at the same time really wasteful and a lot of what he tries simply doesn’t work out. His efficiency really needs to improve if he wants to make it on the next level. I don’t think it’s a coincedence Ten Hag moved him to the right wing for van de Beek who is more disciplined etc.
Hi Miles in answer to your question Stan Kroenke is what’s going on
You’ve got more of an idea about what to do than the Kroenke family and what’s his names who’s replaced Gazidis. You should be on 3m quid a year.
Not sure I want another job…love mine and have more than enough stress already…I think most fans know that the majority of our current players aren’t good enough and need to be moved on this summer…
A far-sighted policy & competent team of scouts are necessary to avoid the problems caused by the lack of funds.
Arsenal can attract good players and not spend an excessive amount of . Look at last season: we spent less than £55m for Torreira, Leno, Sokratis & Guendouzi.
It’s just a shame we sacked the guy who masterminded those transfers. In terms of money spent and talent acquired, I don’t think it’s an overstatement to say this was one of our most successful windows ever.
Three key players and a talent with a high ceiling who made an impact straight away.
Mastermind!? Only signing I can say is definitively “his” would be Sokratis
Think you’re giving Sven way too much credit tbh. We’ll be absolutely fine moving forward without his presence
Agreed.
I would actually say our last two years of (incoming) transfers have been really good.
Torreira, Leno, Sokratis, Guendouzi, Lacazette, Aubameyang, Kolasinac for free, Mavropanos for £1.89m.
Mkhitaryan is a slight anomaly given it was the only way we were going to get anything for Sanchez, but I still think he was a decent buy at the time, it just hasn’t worked out.
Take out those players and we literally have a nothing team.
Fraser: ewww
Carrasco (Atletico 2016): meh shoots a lot and is dispossessed a lot but can dribble. Sounds like Iwobi. Better than Fraser tho and probably cheaper too.
He was obviously too good at his job to survive in the Kroenke regime!!
I mean if you look at the 2 graphs without double checking the criteria it’s a bit misleading.
We’re comparing xG and xA with goals and assists, and touches in box with shooting %.
I appreciate you will be aware of this, I just thought I’d point it out before other people looking at it think Carrasco is 5 times better in terms of stats
Mkhitaryan was never gonna workout. He’d failed at United who had a much better squad at the time. It was obvious he was too light weight and not able to survive the pace and physicality of the prem and sure enough he looks like an inconsistent diddy man for us. It was simply an exchange of two ends of a shitty stick. We’d have been better giving them Alexis under the condition they took Ozil at the same time and letting them give Mkhitaryan away to someone else.
I think people give Sven way too much credit. He’s left Arsenal to join a newly relegated Stuttgart - didn’t appear the demand for him was particularly high.
Sokratis was a nothing signing, a total passion merchant who gives away needless fouls and picks up a booking every other game.
And by all accounts we’ve been tracking Guendouzi since before Sven ever arrived so I’m not sure he should be credited too tough for that one either. I think really and truly Auba, Mkhitaryan, Leno and Sokratis were his signings. Three of them are 29/30+ and the other was a hugely error prone German keeper who’s done an excellent job establishing himself here.
I mean he did get a goal and 5 assists in his first 5 starts, before he started being benched after 45/60 mins and left out of the squad.
Then he was back in the squad and got a goal and 4 assists in six starts before he got injured.
I wouldn’t say those stats suggest he couldn’t cut it.
Sure he looked good at times but so has Ozil. He just doesn’t do it consistently enough. We’re inconsistent because we have too many inconsistent players like this and error prone ones like Mustafi and Xhaka. I’d rather have a primitive but very industrious and effective Ray Parlour than that lot any day of the week.
