You see how irrelevant those 90 goals last season become when you don’t upgrade and seek solutions when we have clear inherent issues?
The players have zero innovation offensively, our structure is rigid, slow tempo and one dimension play where we rely on Saka or corners. You cannot win major trophies by relying on a winger who lacks end product (Martinelli) and Havertz who isn’t your clinical striker. This side lacks game changing players. So frustrating. With Manchester City struggling, this feels even more painful. If you deeply analyse every game since Southampton, we have been very unconvincing.
I did mention in this thread or similar thread that we needed another playmaker in the side.
We struggled badly without Odegaard, but also the fact he played whole 90 mins after coming from an injury - because Arteta doesn’t have faith in other players on bench, shows results of poor squad building. 5 years into the project and we shouldn’t be in this situation.
Winger, primary or secondary playmaker and striker. These 3 things should have been addressed not just last summer but one before that too.
Yes we scored around 90 goals last season but you can’t ignore inherent issues. Inherent issue always come to bite you.
I agree, apart from Saka, we haven’t got a genuine top four quality attacking player and like you say, we really struggled without Odegaard.
Trossard, Havertz, Jesus and Martinelli are very good squad options upfront but not good enough to start regularly for a title chasing team.
After several windows of strengthening our defence, Arteta really needs to sign a top quality LW or playmaker as well as a striker because if he doesn’t, clubs like Man U and Chelsea certainly will, which means it won’t be just us and Man City going for the title.
It seems strange that Arteta paid around 100m to get Trossard and Havertz rather than paying around the same for a top quality attacking player like Gykores, Williams, Sesko, Wirtz or Isaak.
But it’s even stranger that Sterling on loan and Havertz have been our only attacking signings in the last two seasons and, since he’s been manager, he’s bought more GK’s than strikers.
Been putting in some trash performances, can’t even draw on Wengers hunger index for his new contract
He’s washed too
Considering they’ve neglected the area for so long we really need an inspired signing not another player that is on huge wages with their best days behind them.
Yeah, if we were to wait for next summer that’s the one to go big for.
Assuming of course that he doesn’t sign a new deal by then.
Wasn’t one of his biggest fans before but he’s developed quite a bit the couple of years and it’s hard for me to deny his quality. He’s essentially what I thought ESR could develop to.
His chemistry with Kai was also an eye opener for me.
I think you were watching that Newcastle game against Forest too the other day, weren’t you?
I know he scored a goal but physically he looked seriously cooked to me.
