Can’t be more.
He has a release clause of 100m euros, whoever pays it they got him.

What if a few teams bid £85M? It starts a bidding war of sorts and could increase the price.
If that’s the clause then doesnt that essentially mean Sporting have to go with whoever the player wants to go to?
Yeah, in that scenario it would come down to player preference surely.
Nahh, you can raise your offer as much as you will but he can still go to the club who jus paid the release clause and offered the best conditions to the player.
If someone pays the clause and he agrees to join Sporting can’t do a thing. That’s the whole point of the clause. So they can’t hold him and demand some crazy sum if he wants to go…
You can only basically have a bidding war between the clubs in order to offer the best “bid” to Gyokeres not to Sporting.
Just shows how shit the state of forwards in Football are right now, where average strikers are worth +£70m .
The quality is on the floor at the minute.
Nothing about this guy looks average…
Yeah, it’s a huge gamble to pay 100m for a 26 year old guy who had one great season in Portugal. But sometimes you have to go for it.
He’s not just doing great, even the fans of Benfica and Porto are rating him. I think basically everyone is saying he’s a better player than Darwin was there and they haven’t had a player like him in the league for a while.
I really wouldn’t mind us taking a gamble on him… That Zirkzee guy is also interesting, younger too, would be cheaper, but doesn’t look too prolific. This guy knows where the goal is and is also a very complete player.
Idk, both of them are very exciting options, wouldn’t mind neither.
Release clauses will be rarely triggered due to PSR. Now that the clubs can’t spend silly despite having the ability to do so, it will compel the likes of Benfica, Sporting to stop taking a hard stance & start negotiating.
I am all for it.
On the flip side, we wouldn’t get Partey for 45.
Btw, the tendency we, the fans, have to wank over every linked striker - Toney, Solanki, and now Gyokeres - is cringe.
I can only look at what’s happening with Liverpool & Darwin Nunez
I think Gyökeres is typical for us (Swe) in a sense, our guys tend to develop late. Many top players that have consistent careers from an early age start delivering consistently at maybe 20 years of age whilst for us is more like 25. Zlatan was a rare exception.
So I still think the jury is out on him (maybe all the three I mentioned, Kulu and Isak), but I love what I’ve been seeing lately. Also maybe a question of who you play against, but for starters you can only beat what’s in front of you and then let the footballing machine do its thing to drag you up the pyramid.
Not just strikers, people lost their shit over Mudryk, who for all intent and purposes was a nobody player at the time.
50m and Fabio. Let’s go…
I’ll buy Gyökeres in FM24 and report back.
Some top quality scouting coming up.
I’m not sure I would go straight in with £50m, but I think using Fabio is a good shout!
Tbf it wasn’t just the internet.
Let’s not forget Arteta and Edu were prepared almost to match Chelsea’s bid, they obviously saw a lot in him too.
Again, I still think he can get to very decent level if he just starts playing consisntently somewhere. Chelsea are a graveyard.
When wasnthe last time a swap occurred?
It’s incredibly rare nowadays. I presume accounting complexity wise it’s a pain to sort out.
Yes very rare, although we kinda had it with Alexis and Mkhitaryan. In this case though, Sporting may be keen to take Fabio
OTOH that kind of gamble could scuttle a project real quick. I know there are late bloomers in football but that’s an insane amount of money for a guy playing in a mid-tier league.
Anyone looked at roony bardghji? There’s definitely talent, but I’m puzzled by his stats - 21 games, 8 goals, 0 assists??? (Similar story for donyell malen with 11 goals, no assists). Bardghji also left footed.
I think Nwaneri will likely be joining our squad next season, had another stand-out game for the U21s last night.
