I’ve watched him quite a bit and like I’ve stated have championed his signing for us.
If I had to show somebody a game to showcase his talents however, it definitely wouldn’t be last night. I mean I wouldn’t show somebody Rice against Fulham but there are a good 15 other games where he was good.
Players are allowed to have quiet games or slightly off nights. I thought the Sociedad midfield was open.
If we’re getting a keeper for the long-term I’d want Guillaume Restes, would cost the best part of £100m but is already a starter for Toulouse and his ceiling is higher than both of our current keepers. Sell one and use it as the opening bid for him. We’re not exactly desperate in that position so a long-term signing makes more sense.
I think there is a better way of describing him, he is an intelligent ball winning midfielder. He plays deep and is able to dictate tempo and if effective in playing balls forward. The comparisons with Busquets is fair IMO although has a long way to go to reach that level.
If we signed him, we would be buying a DM who can alternate with Rice or play alongside him, with Rice playing a more box-to-box role. I think he fits perfectly into the team if he signs in the summer. As I’ve already said on many occasions, I think there is a high probability we sign him, and he is definitely on the short list. FDJ is the dream, and would be more transformative, but Zubimendi would be incredible for us as well.
4 years left on his contract, best young goalkeeper in the world, already knocking on the door of an full international call-up at the age of 18, Toulouse are no mugs.
He’ll go to a big club for a huge sum soon. Maybe £60-70m, thanks to him being my GK in Football Manager I forgot that he’s still only 18.
