I mean, that Xhaka position isn’t that much different than Odegaard’s. That’s why we saw Vieira there a couple of weeks ago. The idea is to have a more advanced player there, at least for the majority of matches.
The opportunity is there for Vieira and Smith Rowe to claim that spot but they failed for various reasons(injuries, unconvincing performances or lack of physicality), and also Xhaka playing out of his skin for most of the season.
Sell Vieira and buy Madders. Like we should have done in the first place

Not much this season but a fair bit for Leverkusen and the COVID season at Dortmund.
he is in his prime and if the price is reasonable, it is a good buy
seems like Arteta loves technical players and Brandt fits that bill.
very technical, both footed and very good in dribbling.
like Trossard, can play multiple positions
Trossard is a forward, Brandt an attacking midfielder. Don’t see Brandt as better than ESR or different enough to Odegaard despite being a level below. At least Maddison is an output monster, what doss Brandt bring to improve us?
I am not comparing positions, I just said they are both footed and could play multiple positions.

Also, he is a better dribbler than Maddison. Also he can shoot and he can pass.
I see Brandt as an upgrade on ESR (I know it is not a popular opinion).

I’m not even convinced how suited he is to the role but I’d guess Maddison plays the 8. Maddison is Prem-Proven, Brandt is not. Think Maddison is a much better player
Brandt is a soft, technical player and we already have Vieira for that.
Really wouldn’t be impressed with Brandt signing.

Cazorla survived, Rosicky did not. Now Trossard is doing good.

Odegaard gets bullied about a fair bit but he’s so good technically that the trade off is worth it. Cazorla got kicked to bits and won fouls.
Think we’ve reached a dead end on Brandt, you clearly rate him - I don’t really.

All technical players and you are telling me Brandt does not have the built for EPL… without playing one single game in this league… that argument is not a valid one.

I have said that he isn’t robust. I haven’t said that he can’t play in the Prem, just that we know Maddison definitely can.
Is it a technical playmaker that you want in the number 8 role? It would be a big chance from Xhaka being there.

I want him as a rotation, he is a different wide player (also can play central) than Saka and Martinelli and Trossard, which will bring us another style of playing.

I think your argument is a very valid one, but I would argue that we need to be shopping for transformational players in the summer transfer window. We need a really top quality RW to provide competition and rotation for Saka. I’m not sure Brandt is of that quality.
Xhaka plays a much more important role defensively, alongside Partey than Odegaard does and can play. I would regard Odegaard, ESR and Vieira as similar players in terms of their stature and ability to defend. I would also put Maddison in the same category.
I personally still think we need an upgrade on Xhaka. Bellingham, as I’ve said before, would be the perfect addition in that No.8 role, but someone like Sergej Milinkovic-Savic would have that same level of physicality and presence in our midfield. Add Rice to the mix and we have 4 very imposing central midfielders and would completely transform our squad depth and quality of our team.
Maddison is an excellent player, but I think he is very similar to Odegaard, ESR and Vieira. Vieira has had a decent first season IMO and has done enough to be given a chance next season. If we didn’t have Odegaard, and Maddison was available, I would be all over this along with everyone else but can’t see the sense in investing in a very similar type of player when we need players in central midfield with more physicality.
