Regarding adjusting to the league and the transition from Portugal, yeah, thatā€™s the biggest question and you never really know.

Many flops, but also many huge players came from there and have done an amazing job.

I think you could probably use Bruno Ratnandes as a good example/reference.
Itā€™s good heā€™s recent example who plays in the current era so it makes him even more representative.
I was seeing his highlights in portugal for years, and he looked OP. Goals from all the positions, skills, passes etcā€¦ Also a player who dominanted the league for a few years in a similar way. I absolutely thought he would never be able to translate anything near that to a top league. Obviously I was wrong. Arguably the best transfer United did in the post Ferguson era.

The way fans in Portugal are speaking about Gyokeres, not just Sporting fansā€¦ They all agree he is undoubtedly the best player the league has seen in years, including Bruno.
Doesnā€™t have to mean anything in the end, every player is a specific example, but Iā€™d say thatā€™s a positive sign.

we have been linked to him and apparently he is one of those players that Arteta has been speaking to for many monthsā€¦i reckon he will be with us next season.

Ultimately heā€™ll have to prove it elsewhere (hopefully here) but heā€™s the real deal in my eyes.

Like you said at that size to move and dribble like he does? Heā€™s a tank. Then there the workrate with the possession won, pressing, passing

Lethal finishing and complete all round game, heā€™s a rarity in Europe tbh. Shades of a bigger more athletic Suarez, at this moment isnā€™t another striker like him around heā€™s very unique considering how all his attributes blend together.

Iā€™m highly anticipating seeing him against better CL opposition

He has that Suarez-esque unpredictability to his game.
Regardless of any question marks, we should try him out.
At 26, he is at his peak.

I like Gyokeres but what are the odds of us dropping 100m on a 27-year-old striker next summer?

#1 priority is likely a top level LW or a versatile attacker that can either play across the front line or switch from LW to attacking midfield like Wirtz. Weā€™re going to be in the same situation we were this August, needing this kind of player, and Sterling will go back to Chelsea.

#2 priority is likely to be a DM or 6/8 player to replace Partey, who will leave on a free.

#3 priority is probably another defender as at least one of Zinchenko, Kiwior, or Tomiyasu will go.

#4 priority is probably a better backup GK.

I can see us signing a striker if the right opportunity comes along (like we tried with Sesko) but not sure that weā€™ll be looking to make that the biggest buy of the summer.

Basically, I agree of what you said.

How much we are willing to pay for Gyokeres? I guess it has to be ā€œa lotā€ to get his service. We will not be the only one interested in him for sure, and possibly a bidding war will happen.

For me, the rise of Nwaneri, we are not in desperate need for an attacking midfielder. A wide player is more like it, because I donā€™t think we will renew Sterlingā€™s loan, at least we are not going to pay a significant amount on him. We need a permenant wide player for both side.

Partey and Jorgi will go, at least one. As of now we donā€™t see anybody from youth team is capable to fill this back up role. Ode, Rice, Merino, Nwaneri, Partey/Jorgi is definitely not enough. So we will need a CM/CDM.

We possibly will need one to replace Kiwior/Tomi/Zinny.

Donā€™t see we have enough money to go all out on Gyokeres.

ohh heā€™s already 26/27? Why did I think he was only 22

Nwaneri is an unproven attacking mid

He should have no bearing on a striker signing

if he is ā€œunprovenā€, which means not yet up to standardā€¦

does it mean we need a cover for Ode?
I think after this Odeā€™s injury, Arteta wonā€™t make the same mistake again and have no one cover this position.

Gabriel Jesus should be finished here which is another reason why a striker will be needed in my view

Says Chelsea, Liverpool, and Barcelona also all interested.

Not a bad group of suitors.

definitely need a replacement.

Another freaking defender

Arteta has created his defender ā€œĀ£200 Pass Goā€ feature at the club. Itā€™s a given now haha.

Quite the Reis to try and sign him.

I think people forget / donā€™t realise that Gyokeres played in the Championship for Coventry. His last season there Coventry were so close to PL promotion via the playoffs losing on penalties to Luton.

Heā€™s shown he can produce in England in a very physical, demanding league. Personally Iā€™d be quite confident of his ability to adapt to the PL if we did got for him.
