Aaron Ramsdale

Right now there is probably sizeable gap with regard to their passing and distribution tbh

And that’s something that is key here

Ramsdal has become so cocky and he’s been giving it the big I am. Don’t get me wrong , he’s been a breath of fresh air but he believes he is unbeatable, but he isn’t .
He needs to get back to his rawness , forget the Billy big bollocks attitude and get back to being a ‘keeper .
Good call by Arteta

I trust the manager with this one. Quite a number of times has a Ramsdale error led to a goal, meaning we’ve had to chase the game.

Too early to tell whether Raya is better, but we’ll see.

Other than Southampton at home last season I can’t really remember him being the direct cause of a goal.

Arteta is going to rotate his keepers even though conventional wisdom suggests that’s a bad idea. Could be a genius move. Only time will tell whether this will work or will it be another Partey as right back kinda thing.

Would definitely like to see Rambo start in the CL. He’s one of the reasons we’re in the competition.

Another way to read it is Arteta wants to win something this season so he needs a top shelf keeper for every competition.

In previous years you’d have a lower quality keeper like Matt Turner for cup games.

I think it shows ambition on the part of Mikel.

There’s been a lot of shots with low xG, resulting in goals that he’s failed to save. The defending has been at fault too, but I genuinely can’t remember the last time a team scored a proper goal against us.

Maybe Palmer for City was the last one.

Define low xg.

Uh oh. Better get your peer reviewed data set in triplicate in ready.

Good man. Keep it up and eventually someone will give you a like.

That or you’ll actually discuss something with someone rather than demanding they prove something to ever more specific degrees, finally indicating there’s actually something approaching an original thought in your head.

Admittedly, that’s a less likely outcome.

I haven’t demanded any proof of anything here. Ive asked a simple question that can even be opinion based as id like to know what he thinks…

What’s the problem?

I’d say low xG is a low probability a shot is expected to result in a goal based on where the ball was hit from, at what speed etc.

e.g. the goal was conceded when Saka gave the ball away, shouldn’t have resulted in a goal at all. The opposition player didn’t even hit it properly.

If that goal was supposedly a low xG goal, then that shows why xG cannot be taken seriously. That should have been a high xG situation cause we were caught completely off guard by Saka’s misplaced pass. The fact that the player mishit the ball and still scored just shows how high the xG should have been, no?

I part of my soul dies whenever I hear someone say xG.

I think the main concern with xG is that it doesn’t take player ability into consideration. It’s based on an average player’s ability by comparing similar chances before.

If it was Messi/Ronaldo who had that chance, the xG should be significantly better, though the number recorded with our current model would be the same.

In short, you’re right lol. It has flaws, but overall that chance should’ve been saved if not for Rambo’s footing.

I’d say a majority of goals fit this description under the xg model. I dont have any perception that Ramsdale is conceding a load of low % goals any more than other keepers do.

The interesting thing with Ramsdale is that he’s able to pull off some absolute worldies, with the hard to save chances, he’s quite good at 1:1s too, but the easy ones appear to go in.

I’d love to dig into the data if it’s publicly accessible.

I thought about this too but xG is so subjective already, without taking the player’s ability into account. Adding that to the equation will just make this an even more controversial stat.

He got beaten on the near side but that was the harder finish IMO, made easier largely by the mishit. As for his footing, given the distance of the ball from goal, he gambled on Pereira taking a few more touches before shooting. Had he stood his ground, at the edge of the box, Pereira could have easily chipped him, so he had to retreat. Now instead of backing up, which would have kept him facing the ball, he decided to turn and run to cover ground more quickly, again, because he gambled on the Pereira not taking the shot from that far out. Pereira took the shot early and got very lucky. Can’t really blame Ramsdale there.

Media had their finger on trigger just waiting for Raya to start a game. Predictable shite.
