Contracts

Only ones worth keeping are Özil And Sanchez. And Szczęsny if no other GK is bought. I’m on the fence with Ox, but the rest should be binned!

Özil and Sanchez are gone, and the rest are just not worth extending unless they sign for little money since they’re either old, injury-prone or just shit.

I’ve already accepted that all of those chumps are leaving.

Gibbs will probably get a run of games then sign.

The best ‘intelligence’ suggests Sanchez and Chamberlain actively want out. Ozil is less marketable at present and may end up signing if none of the few clubs above us in the food chain come in for him.

Sanogo and Jenkinson are substandard and are surely already looking around for their next club.

I think Wilshere, Gibbs and particularly Szczesny are three that probably love Wenger a little bit less than Mr Iwobi, and may ask to leave in the summer once it’s confirmed he’s staying on. I think all 3 could be persuaded to stay though, unless Wenger has plans for a complete squad overhaul in one summer.

Cazorla and Mertesacker are among the few wise old heads left in our squad. I’d like Cazorla to stay as he’s class altho in a brutal world he gets cut loose this summer. Mertesacker isn’t good enough anymore in all honesty but may be worth keeping around in a dressing room capacity, not that that seems to have been of much use this season. Actually, get rid.

I’m surprised how basically no one has any hope that Sánchez or Özil will stay. I don’t have that much but I think it’s hard to say with any certainty that both will be gone.

edit: if Ox really wants out that’s a huge blessing, only way we’re ever seeing the back of that clown.

I have no hope of Sanchez staying to be honest, I really think that ship has sailed. Ozil is less clear, hes clearly keeping his options open still in his most recent comments saying that he loves the club. I think if he gets the right offer from a top side he’ll be off but if that isn’t forthcoming he may well stay. He seems a bit happier and more comfortable at the club than Sanchez does imo, and probably wouldn’t mind staying if no better opportunities come up.

This i just my view on it, based on not much evidence really.

How would you rate the likelihood of each player staying AC?

My guess is Ozil’s camp sounded out clubs and the response wasn’t encouraging as a result he’s not completely shut the door on renewal

Alexis is a weird one - it was only in December he did a Sky interview about how he loves the fans, club, London etc and everybody thought it was clearly a money issue, only 3 months down the line everybody thinks it’s a competitive/ambition issue now?

I have no idea what’s going on but I certainly don’t think either of them are gone yet tbh Good chance both sign in the summer if we secure top four.

Wont cry over a single one of them going tbh. All been apart of collective fail.
I will cry if Wenger stays in any capacity though.

I can understand how someone might think Sanchez will stay, if this is their first year supporting Arsenal and they don’t have access to the internet. Otherwise no.

Ozil has been outspoken about his admiration for Wenger, his future is more linked to that of what his manager has in store, whereas I see Sanchez as someone less connected to the club and his teammates, a driven guy who sees the lack of progress at this club and wants out while still in his prime

There isn’t any top club that want Ozil, tbh. Sanchez has more market.

I think every top club would want Ozil. The question rather would be how big his role is going to be with another club. Here he is one of four untouchables.

Well if it was a money issue and you think you’re worth 250k and the final offer is 180k personally I wouldn’t feel very valued when you know the club can afford it and they’ll struggle to replace you. If that is the offer, he’s probably heard the excuses of why it won’t go higher and it’s probably so that they can pay Coquelin 75k.

Also a few more to get rid of…

Reminds me of being a kid and all those fucking shit swaps you could never get shut of when you just wanted 1 or 2 good players to complete the set.

Thing is though how do we even know those figures you mentioned are accurate? I’d really like to think Arsenal have learnt lessons from the past and see how much bad PR losing Sanchez would be.

If it was a just a money issue I think Arsenal would bite the bullet and pay anything around £250K but for all we know Alexis could be asking for £350k+ using the China interest as a basis. For you personally is there a point where you say no that’s too much in terms of Alexis’ wage?

Well it should be whatever he’s worth in relation to his level, age, experience and importance to the club but I wouldn’t think it absurd if he signed a deal to make him a top 10 earner in Europe.

Obviously we can only take the figures thrown about with a pinch of salt and maybe the 400k you hear from China etc aren’t sustainable but he’s definitely in the 250k+ bracket for me.

I’d like to think otherwise but I think the “wage structure” is still in effect. Our earnings have gone up a lot and so have our top earners (I think Cesc was around 100k and now our top boys are around 140k) and around 180k sounds like the kind of arbitrary limit we’d have in place for 2017. I just can’t see us offering players 140k in 2014 and then 250k in 2017.

That wage structure wasn’t just to save money during adversity, it felt more like a socialist policy and players like Coquelin getting a reported 75k doesn’t feel far from Diaby/Denilson getting 50k so it makes me think we’re still in that place.

Going over 250k would be a big jump for Arsenal, but if it’s a case of keep or lose him for say 300, I think he’d be worth it. I think there’s a difference between a big signing and someone who’s already proved they’re a key player for you and we should be fighting to do what we can. It would give a bigger boost to the club than any big signing would imo.

But like you say, maybe we are willing to stretch and maybe he’s just being an arse about it . I guess we won’t find out until next year what really happened.

Oh Arsene

He’d be justified if we had something to show for it.

I don’t mean silverware, but an unbelievable team spirit, high work ethic, cohesive style of play from all the squad, anything to set us apart from the competition but there’s nothing at all to say this way is a good way.

I don’t think Gary Cahill is unmotivated because of Eden Hazard’s salary.

For someone who is an expert in economics he seems clueless.
His transfer strategy, along with his wage structure, has cost the club not only top players leaving but top players not coming here.

His ridiculous quotes of players “not meeting with his valuation,” has cost us the opportunity to win several titles.

Although I notice his wages do meet with his valuation.
It’s a shame that no one at the club questions that.
