Might be a bit out of place here but do you remember this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JERdIAMmFNQ Seems like a long time since we have had such a siege mentality.

We came 15 mins away from being champions of europe.

No. We sold or got rid of many key players like Vieira,Edu,Parlour,Keown and adding to the likes of Ljungberg and Pires were past their best by then. We had Fabregas coming through the ranks who is now one of the most complete midfielders in the world.

I didn't start or even go see Arsenal play till the late 90's anyway but go back to the fact that we used to get called "boring, boring Arsenal" and now we use it as a sarcastic chant ourselves sort of tells you everything.

    Wenger > George Graham

I love how you use 'we didn't concentrate on the league' excuse for finishing 10th. League cup try 2 double winning seasons, oh wait. Try most succesfull manager in our history.

    As for Walsho

The biggest things in life have been achieved by people who, at the start, we would have judged crazy. And yet if they had not had these crazy ideas the world would have been more stupid.

    Ah, now i understand.

In all seriousness, it's a shame you are too young to have seen us play in the early 80's.
If you had you wouldn't consider what George Graham did as an underachievment, nor think that winning the League Cup was a source of amusement.

I would put Wenger and Graham on a par.
And they both had/have exactly the same fault as manager.
An inabilty to listen to any advice other than their own.

Wenger took us from mediocrity to brilliance. Tony Adams would have retired a drunken disgrace if it wasn't for Wenger transforming him and this club. Course it's a matter of opinion but one day you'll look back when Wenger leaves us and rate him much greater than Graham.

There's a big reason he's our most succesfull manager in our history.

Aren't all great managers like that though? If Wenger listened to supporters from the day he took over then we'd probably not exist as a club right now lol.

    As did George Graham.
And they both had their predeccesor to thank for leaving them with many of the pieces of the jigsaw already in place.

We'll probably say the same for our next manager.

If Wenger ain't the man any longer then I hope it's someone who can just find the balance between great attack and defence.

The "boring, boring Arsenal" chant pre-dates George Graham as Arsenal manager.
In fact, it was used about us before he was even an Arsenal player.
Anybody with a good knowledge of our club would be well aware that we played some fantastic attacking football under Graham and that it was only in his last couple of seasons, after the arrival of Ian Wright, that he adopted the "get a goal and hang on" tactics.

We most definitely did ignore our league campaign toward the end of 1993.
Once we had no chance of winning the league, all our efforts went into what we could win.
That was how George Graham operated, it was all about winning trophies.
Something that is borne out by the fact that our longest barren spell under Stroller was 1 season.
We won both domestic cups that season too, something that had never been achieved before.

You produced our "joke" seasons of 1993 and 1994 as your proof that George Graham under-achieved as Arsenal manager.
Now, bearing in mind we won 3 trophies in those 2 seasons, how would you describe Wenger's managerial performance in the last 6 seasons?

I must admit, before i started debating against your ridiculous assertion that George Graham under-acheived as Arsenal manager, i was convinced that Arsene Wenger was still the right man for the Arsenal job.
    Now i'm not so sure.

Well the difference is class will be summed up by this.

Graham fucked off from us to go to Tottenham where he failed miserably apart from a League Cup (lol). Wenger could have left us for Madrid,Barcelona or any top european club back in 2006 or even further back. He decided to stay. Loyalty.

Judas cunt always in my eyes Graham, the same approach you and Walsho give towards Wenger these days are as if he's commited a crime. It's crazy to be honest of how you can speak so highly of a man that fucked off to the yids. It's no accident that Wenger is our best manager in our history and the famous back 4 wouldn't probably have been that well recognised if it wasn't for Wenger's success back in 98.

Graham = Never won a Premier League title.

Premier League title > Old first division.

Loyalty doesn't really gauge managerial ability or previous success though.

I agree that Wenger has had great success, in the very distant past now unfortunately, and he even created what many consider the blue print of winning the Premier League, but he has since moved away from those tactics that worked and has shown an inability to act on things that need it.

I'd love for Arsene Wenger to be successful but all this money management crap is just doing my head in. And his constant ignorance towards fixing problems is what has led us to this barren run. This window was supposed to be the defining window for him, but so far he hasn't acted sufficiently enough.

I wish he could be successful again, but I simply can't see it.

I truly believe that if we had forked out once or twice every off season we'd have won things, which would have led to revenue from trophies as well as more fans and more merchandise revenue.

When I see United going out and getting their targets, I find it hard to believe that our debt is such a massive hindrance that we are struggling to stay relevant to the top 4.

Do you really think United will 'do a Leeds?'. Fuck no. Because they win stuff and their debt is manageable, just like ours is, except they are wise enough to realise they can spend a bit and recoup it through their successes.

So... What's happening now? We're 8 days away from a new season with Newcastle, Liverpool and Manure being the 1st 3 games.

Somebody tell me what the fuck is wrong with this club?
