    Oguzhan Ozyakup

    Name: Oguzhan Ozyakup
Born: September 23, 1992. Zaandam, Netherlands
    Position: Midfielder
    Previous Club(s): AZ Alkmaar
    Joined Arsenal: September 01, 2008
    Has signed a new deal!

Arsenal have confirmed highly-rated Dutch youngster Oguzhan Ozyaku has signed professional terms with the club.

Ozyaku joined Arsenal from AZ Alkmaar in the summer of 2008 and he has impressed since his arrival at Emirates Stadium.

The 17-year-old made 12 appearances for Arsenal's Under 18s last season, scoring four times and he has represented Holland at Under 16 and Under 17 levels.

Ozyaku was delighted to sign professional terms to keep him at Arsenal until 2011.

"This is an unbelievable feeling. I have a long way to go. This is just the start," Ozyaku told the Dutch FA's official website.

"Arsenal makes it clear they see something in me. That really feels as a reward for the club.

"Manager Arsene Wenger has told me I have still a long way to go.
"I have to do my best and show I want to be the best player on the pitch.

    Target

Ozyaku has already trained several times with the first team squad and he enjoyed the experience.

"It's different to the Netherlands. You don't have any standard days, but sometimes you get the chance if they have a player shortage.

"For example because of international games with national teams or injuries. Last time I could join the training I played along with Andrey Arshavin, Cesc Fabregas, William Gallas and Mikael Silvestre. Really fantastic."

Ozyaku admits it is his dream to make his first team debut for Arsenal.
"That would really be good. My goal is to get in the squad and train every day with the first team," concluded Ozyaku.

    Oğuzhan Özyakup

Young Guns reporting that he's rejected the clubs offer of a new contract and now set to leave in the summer.

I thought this kid was quite a good prospect, the club obviously think so if they are offering another contract, wonder where he'll think's he'll end up?

    And they've just tweeted this

Just like Merida, Barazite and Nordtveit, Özyakup felt Arsenal had broken promises. He has offers from Italy, Germany and Turkey.

Tis a shame that if true, he was definitely one of the most promising ones. He's probably got an offer for first team footy elsewhere and isn't patient enough to stick around.

    Good luck to him.

Does make you wonder what these "promises" are that Arsenal tell youngsters in order to get them to join? Money? Playing time?

The step up from reserves to the first team is huge and I doubt he'd ever get a chance in the first team unless he played exceptionally well in the Carling Cup.

That's a big shame - he was tipped to have a big future Arsenal & was Arsenal reserves's best midfielder.

Infact one of the scouts Arsenal even rate him highly...

I think we'll start seeing more of this as our transfer policy continues to change.

I was just about to mention something similar.

Surely we would be doing everything we can to keep one of our most promising youngsters? Perhaps this is a one off, who knows.

Until we determine whether the lad left because of a lack of senior opportunities or due to money, its hard to say if this will happen again in the future. If I were guessing, I would say it has a lot to do with how we put out much stronger sides in the Carling Cup.

He is still 18 so I would have hoped he had a bit more patience anyway. He was highly rated.
