Arsenal signed Sagna in the summer of 2007 from Auxerre for £6.1m as current right back Lauren had been out of action since January 2006. He quickly made the right back position his own and when Lauren returned from injury he never regained his place from Sagna and was sold to Portsmouth.

    Bakari Sagna

ARSENAL are close to signing Auxerre right-back Bakari Sagna for £6million.

Sagna, recently voted France’s best player in his position by his fellow players, was in the national squad for the first time for Saturday’s Euro 2008 qualifying win over Ukraine.

Auxerre are aware of the Gunners’ interest and admit they are likely to lose their 24-year-old star, whose career took off after a switch of postion from centre-forward.
Manager Jean Fernandez said: “The ideal thing would be for him to stay another year but that appears difficult.”

if we get him, we could possibly play him as right back and switch hleb with eboue. i dont think arsenal could cope without eboues attacking capabilities.

Seems a strange signing to me

We have Eboue and Hoyte already at right back

I'm assuming that one of them would have to leave if we signed Sagna

This rumour is definete bollocks if you ask me. Both Eboue and Hoyte have recently signed long term contracts, so there is no way we're looking for a right back. Unless Wenger has it in mind to move Eboue forward in place of Hleb, which I doubt he does, then this is usual paper drivel.

Have to agree with you there. We do not need another full back!

Well if i is bollocks so be it, but i have seen some of him and hes quite good, and also could probably cover a CB which gives us some space in Jan/Feb for African Cup.....

Yes... at least since the last time I checked!

He should be back from Cardiff City, where he has been on loan this past season.

    Cheers MK.

I knew he'd been at Cardiff but didn't know if they'd signed him permanently now.

Clearly utter bolocks. You would think that these hacks would smarten up and actually make up something that is believable, like, oh I don't know...Henry to Barca? :lmao

    BAKARY SAGNA

Auxerre are resigned to losing full-back Bakary Sagna to Arsenal. "He wants to wear the Arsenal shirt," said club president Gerard Bourgoin. (Mail)

Looks like were gonna get this fella for about 7m, does anyone know about him?

Apparetly he won a player of the year award in France this year and he is a Interntional with France.

Think he is a right back though.

Sorry IW, didn't the the other thread on this, could you merge with the other?
