I am not a fan of Almunia but I believe that no keeper in the world would have saved yesterdays goals. The freekick was perfectly executed as much as I dislike Drogba, there was no chance any keeper would have moven and I seen great keepers just standing in some freekicks. That said I still think we need a replacement for this guy and I do not see Fabianski as the replacement.

I donīt really see either Fabianski or Don Vito as suitable replacements for Almunia. Vito had a good run, but beeing a keeper myself I do believe it was pure inspiration against Fulham. He made many great saves, but he didnīt act confident and honestly made alot of mistakes he was lucky to escape from. By this I donīt mean there isnīt potential in him, far from it. Give him a couple of years and Iīm sure he can step up and challenge for real. Wenger gave Almunia the chance when Lehmann struggled, but he clearly does not think Vito is ready to challenge for the number one spot yet.
Whatever happens, I have allways seen Almunia as a safety hassard. We need a replacement, someone who can organize the defence and doesnīt have two left feet shaped as toblerones.
I so wish that Shaaban hadnīt broken his leg a few seasons back. Maybe Almunia would have left the club then.

Debatable. For the first goal from Florent Malouda, Eboue was also to blame as he let Malouda get the ball in that position on the field (Eboue was at RB that day). However, Fabianski's positioning was poor as he should have been covering his far post properly.
The second goal from Drogba was also a lot down to Silvestre being utter shite in allowing Drogba to win the ball and get clear on goal to round a rushing Fabianski.
He had a poor game and was at fault to some degree for both the goals, but so were other players an I think it's unfair to say he was the reason we lost.

Wenger reveals truth on Sorensen reports
By Nick Teale
Arsčne Wenger has dismissed speculation suggesting that Thomas Sorensen was close to joining Arsenal on transfer deadline day.
The manager recently told Arsenal TV Online that he had worked hard last Monday to try and secure a last-minute signing, however he refused to name the player he was chasing.
Over the weekend reports in the national press suggested that the man in question was Stoke City goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen.
At his pre-Liverpool press conference on Tuesday the manager was asked if the reports were true, and Wenger was unequivocal in his answer.
"No. No," replied the Frenchman.
Does anyone think there was any truth in him chaseing Sorenson

I sure hope not. In my book it would be a desperate last minute buy. Sörensen has been ok in Stoke this year, but not in the form he had at Villa. It could have been a buy based on former merits. I hope AW has som other deal in mind come next season, but who knows what he has in mind these days

AW will not buy a keeper. He has a syndrome where he fails to see how shit players are.

Almunia is the best GK currently at the club - he is a good steady pro but World Class he ain't.
A World Class GK can make the difference between winning a trophy and another nearly season. Its those saves that he shouldn't have been able to make that make the difference. Cech and VDS do it for their clubs.
Fabianski for me is Alex Manniger without the nerves. A great shot stopper but not going to be top class. Mannone gives me no confidence. The young lad Szczesny might very good be but is too young to be judged.
To be really a World Class team Arsenal need to look right down the spine - the squad has World Class Fullbacks, wingers and creative players. Song may have sorted the DCM problem and TV has strengthened the CB position but it looks very bare when you think it is only an injury or suspension from seeing Sylvestre!! The other positions that need attention are GK and striker.
I don't see lots of World Class keepers around on the market at an Arsenal sort of price - Hugo Lloris is being talked up but Lyon don't sell cheap. Green is good but error and injury prone.
We may have to stick with Almunia for the moment - he is not a great keeper but he ain't a bad one either.

Agree throughly!
Fabianski doesn't remind me of Manninger though. Alex reminds me of Almunia though. Whenever the lad made a mistake it would effect him for the rest of the game. Thats Almunia. A nervous reck but once he had confidence he'd be a superb goalkeeper making world class saves.

I agree, superb at his loan spell at Birm this season. Man City probably value him a bit too high for AW. Probably best, because I canīt stand his personality. Theres something wrong with the lad. Or maybe itīs because his bad behaviour against Sweden in the U21 Euro. Yeah thats probably it
Other then that I canīt see who we can afford. Adler would be terrific, but money talks and Manure are looking at him Iīve heard.

Joe Hart is a Man City player. Shay Given is coming to the end of his career. City won't be letting Hart go.

Let's be fair, he didn't exactly have much to do bar that shot onto the crossbar late on.
