• Arsenal Defeat Plucky Brighton

A late deflected goal from Theo Walcott was enough to ensure Arsenal progressed to the fifth round at the expense of Brighton at the Amex Stadium.

Brighton And Hove Albion 2-3 Arsenal (FA Cup Fourth Round)

Olivier Giroud gave the Gunners the lead from range before Ashley Barnes equalised from a corner. Giroud put Arsenal ahead in the second half only to see debutant Jose Ulloa even things up with a diving header before Walcott’s late winner.

Arsenal keeper Wojciech Szczesny was drawn into a fantastic reflex save just before the opening goal when he pushed out Will Buckley’s shot on the turn. It proved to be a crucial save because sixty seconds later Arsenal were level.

A lightning-fast counter attack in the 16th minute saw the ball end up with Giroud at the edge of the Brighton box and he used the defender to unsight the goalkeeper as he curled a great shot into the top left corner.

In the 33rd minute Brighton equalised. A corner was swung in to the 6 yard box and the marking was poor from the Gunners allowing Barnes to get his head to the ball before Szczesny who really should have been able to claim it.

Brighton were saved by the crossbar ten minutes into the second half. Lukas Podolski’s dipping freekick was very unlucky. It had Casper Ankergren rooted to the spot but it just didn’t dip enough to avoid the crossbar. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was first the rebound but his goal bound shot was blocked.

It didn’t seem to matter much though as Arsenal were ahead just a minute afterwards. Abou Diaby found Giroud’s run with a clever diagonal ball and the Frenchman’s touch was perfect as he took the ball down before slamming home.

However, Brighton equalised in the 62nd minute. They exploited Arsenal’s left hand side with Andre Santos again and the cross from David Lopez saw Per Mertesacker flat footed and Ullou was on hand to grab a goal on his debut with a diving header.

Arsenal managed to take the lead for the third and final time in the 85th minute when a corner was punched only as far as Walcott on the edge of the area and his volley deflected off Adam El-Abd and into the net.

It was enough to send Arsenal through to the next round and they will find out who they will face later today.

Wouldn't surprise me if he took a knock in the game against Brighton.

Was totally unnecessary for him to come on.

He proved to be good enough both as a starter & an bench option while he was here.
